ARACHNE IX
Nordic Network for Women’s History and Gender Studies in Antiquity Gender, Identities, and Social Structures in Greco-Roman Antiquity
Rome 8-10 November 2023
The ARACHNE IX conference will take place at the Swedish and Finnish institutes in Rome between 8-10 November 2023.
The focus of the conference is on gender, engendered identities and social structures in ordinary Greco-Roman life. Papers (20 minutes presentation) and posters can be submitted on various topics related to the conference theme, but we especially welcome contributions on:
- Reading gender structures in the Greco-Roman Societies
- Material and immaterial signs of status in everyday life
- Work structures and occupations
- Religious practices and identities
- Ethnicity, status, and identities
- Slavery and coersive work

Notification of acceptance will be sent out in May, with further information about payment methods.
Conference fee:
150 euros and 80 euros for students and unemployed participants. The fee includes coffee/tea all three conference days, two lunches, and a wine recepetion.
