Book presentation: “Akseli Gallen-Kallela e l’Italia 1895-1950” by Maria Stella Bottai 17.2.

A new study by art historian Maria Stella Bottai “Akseli Gallen-Kallela e l’Italia 1895-1950” will be presented on Zoom on 17 February 2021 at 6 pm (CET). The event will be attended by the author herself, who will speak after the introduction by Arja Karivieri, director of Institutum Romanum Finlandiae.

A prominent name in the Finnish Golden age, rediscovered in recent years thanks to important international exhibitions, Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931) had a privileged relationship with Italian culture, retraced in this book through the highlights of his career. Maria Stella Bottai’s book “Akseli Gallen-Kallela e l’Italia 1895-1950” (Gangemi editore 2020) is the first study in Italian about Gallen-Kallela’s relationship with Italy and his Italian influences.

MARIA STELLA BOTTAI is art historian and curator, PhD, with special interest in education and digital art history. Based in Rome, she teaches Art history in high school and Art history didactic at Sapienza University of Rome. Bottai has studied and worked in Italy, France and Finland.
