Old methods, new results. Archaeology of roof tiles in the eastern Mediterranean.

This presentation gives a summary of my PhD research, which focused on the different types of ceramic roof tiles from the Roman period used in the eastern provinces from Greece to the Levant, the technology of their production and the social implications of their use.
Dr. Pirjo Hamari studied archaeology at the University of Helsinki, completing her PhD in 2020, with a thesis titled “Roman-period roof tiles in the Eastern Mediterranean. Towards regional typologies”.
